Uvita, Costa Rica

July 13-15

This might be the most unknown and underrated location in all of Costa Rica.

We spent out first afternoon in Uvita exploring the waterfalls and springs. The waterfall was incredible. From the entrance we walked upstream to find the main waterfall.

The water was beautifully fresh and there weren't too many tourists about. Amazing. Naturally we spent a little while getting some good jump shots!

We walked up to the top of the waterfall and discovered that it just kept going and going! You could keep walking further up for ages, finding more little waterfalls. At one point Aaron was right next to a waterfall and slipped... He then managed to slide all the way down the rock and into the water. Smooth!

He was also brave enough to slide down the big waterfall - which was at least 6 or 7 metres high, but apparently smooth enough to slide down.

Next we walked to the river, where we found a little pool which we had all to ourselves! Gorgeous spot.

In the evening we met Layla at our hostel and she dragged us along to a ridiculously intense boxing class. Intense, but super fun!

An excellent cheap day!

And good thing we had one cheap day in Uvita...because day #2 cost us a fair bit! But was well worth it. We'd heard that Isla De Caño had some of the best snorkelling in all of Costa Rica. So we drove an hour south to Sierpe, where we hopped on a boat. Before hitting the ocean, the boat meandered through the mangrove river. We spotted a few crocodiles!

Once we were out in the ocean we saw lots of dolphins.

When we eventually made it to Isla De Caño we were gob smacked by the clear blue water. I've never seen water so blue in my life!

Within minutes of entering the water, we'd found a TURTLE!!!!!!! I was super excited and proceeded to follow it for about half an hour. So beautiful!!!!! Having seen a sloth and a turtle, all my Costa Rica to-do's are done!

We also saw some really colourful fish, but nothing compares to the turtle!

We pulled into a beach to relax and have a snack. Paradise.

Afterwards, we headed out again and saw more turtles! More fish! Amazing!

Our last stop was another secluded little beach, where we had lunch.

Going back through the river we were lucky enough to spot squirrel monkeys! This completes the list of monkeys in Costa Rica. Squirrel monkeys are tiny and a little wee bit adorable.

On the last morning in Uvita we walked up to a viewpoint that looks over the coast. It's hard to tell from this angle, but the coast line looks a bit like a whale's tale!
