Cuzco, Peru

Aug 8-9

We had just one night in Cuzco before departing for our jungle adventure.

The drive between Arequipa and Cuzco was very long, but also quite scenic. We drove through the mountains, passing a few beautiful lakes as we gradually climbed in altitude.
We also saw lots of llamas and alpacas, one of whom just about joined us for lunch. Cutie.
Upon arriving in Cuzco Laura showed us around the main areas of town. The plaza was really beautiful, with its churches, a cathedral and lovely arched walkways. There were also heaps of lights up on the hill behind the plaza, making it a really picturesque spot. We also saw the markets and discovered 'Gringo Alley' - where all the tourist-friendly places are!
We had Italian for dinner and then headed to an Irish pub for drinks...the highest Irish pub in the world! Eventually we ended up at a club on Gringo Alley and danced the night away.
Sinead's drinking rules applied: we were not allowed to point at anyone or say drink or mine. The punishment was 10 push ups. I was off form...and ended up doing 170 push ups!!!
Somehow still an incredibly fun night. Buuuut getting back at 4am for a 6.30am wake up was perhaps not ideal. Oops.
